How do you pronounce God? Something struck me recently when I heard someone on You Version enunciate God differently than I do. As I was listening to the word of the day on Friday, November 24, the person who gave the word was a rap artist (who did a fabulous job explaining Colossians 3:16). But, what struck me was the way he pronounced God. While it was not exaggeratedly drawn out, I discerned the sound to have more of an “aw” sound as in G-aw-d, rather than “ah” sound as in G-ah-d.

That’s when I realized that the way this man pronounced God revealed the “AWE” of our Mighty God! His enunciation of the word emphasized God’s awesome power and might. I just loved that!

Then I thought, pronouncing God with the “ah” sound is equally as good, because it reveals the “WONDER” of the God of creation and the splendor of His glory. And I love that too!

So, however you pronounce God, whether revealing His Awe or Wonder, let us revere and praise His Holy name every time we utter that sound. And on that note, came the inspiration for this year’s Christmas poem.

At long last, the essence of Christmas
Emanuel, now God is with us
To reconcile mankind back to God
A perfect Savior, forever scarred
He came upon the darkness of night
Awesome in Wonder, splendid in Light
He was heaven’s glory who came down
To bring justice and the Victor’s crown
Born was God with us, Emanuel
Who conquered death and the fire of hell
Hope had arrived with the future bright
Awesome in power, wonder and light
Now to everyone who will believe
There’s amazing grace, free to receive
So people can live forever more
And be welcomed home at heaven’s door
At long last, the essence of Christmas
Declares that God is always with us
Now, if you seek Him, He will be found
And you will feel His love all around
Awesome is God in power and might
With love that’s full of wonder and light
His burden is easy, it’s not hard
As all things are possible with God

Believe 2024

Thank you for reading my blog. I hope you enjoyed my poem. My word from the Lord for this new year is “Believe”. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever would “believe” in Him shall have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I share your sentiment; I have not put up my Christmas decor yet. Love the comparison of newness that we experience again and again: as we embark on a New Year and as we learn experience new seasons and growth in our relationship with Christ.

    Also, love the decor!
