Politics is usually something I avoid writing about in my blogs. First and foremost Jesus is Sovereign in my life and in the life of many of you, my readers, although we may have differing political opinions.
Last week, we witnessed the inauguration of the forty-sixth President of the “United” States of America. I highlighted that word because in spite of the opposite (divided), I choose to speak only positive words over our nation. God has given us these United States of America and United we shall be. No one can take this away from us, unless we let them. Let us remember the scripture that had been echoed time and time again this past year and will continue in 2021:
“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
So here we are on the verge of a new regime, amidst all of the contrary predictions that said Donald Trump would serve as president for two terms. While many believed this to be true, due to his godly policies, others couldn’t stomach his ungodly behavior. But, God uses who He wants to accomplish His purposes. He used Jehu, a very unlikely, ungodly choice for king in Israel to rid the land of idolatry. (You can read about this in books of Kings and Chronicles.) It has been said that Donald Trump has a “Jehu spirit”. There is nothing regal or presidential about him, yet he was God’s choice to accomplish His purpose. And so he has, to some degree.
Much speculation and many conspiracy theories have been raised regarding the issues dividing our country. But, make no mistake, God sets up rulers and Kings to accomplish His purpose. And while God does not change, His timing is not our timing. It has been said that when God’s people act in wicked ways, He gives them wicked rulers to bring them to repentance. God loves all people, the wicked and the good. He wants none to perish, but for all to be saved. However, he will not force anyone. That is why we have free will, to choose Him and His ways or not.
Having said that, there are a few things that have come to mind from the reading of Scripture lately. First, regarding President Trump’s ungodly behavior while in office, he lacked humility, he was extremely prideful and boastful, and while he did not mock God, he can still be considered a mocker. However, let us remember that the Lord disciplines those he loves. (Hebrews 12:6)
There is a possibility that in these next few years, President Trump may be disciplined by the Lord and his heart will change. Nebuchadnezzar was a wicked king who ruled over God’s people Israel, yet, he was used for God’s purposes, until He humbled him. Because of Nebuchadnezzar’s pride, God removed him as king for a time, before restoring him back to his kingdom. (Daniel 4) This may seem to be an improbable reality with the impeachment process ongoing, but who can say for certain we have seen the last of President Trump? It is written: with God, all things are possible.
Who is to say our new president, Joe Biden does not have a personal relationship with the Lord and that his spirit will be awoken to any evil that surrounds him giving clarity to his mind? Many are in fear of how it appears that he is being used by a potentially socialist and communist regime. But God tells us not to fear. (Check out the scriptures below about fear.)
Joe Biden just may turn out to be a wonderful president. Whatever the case, God has placed him in the office as our President at this time. Whether you like him or not, God’s Word implores you and me to pray for rulers and kings. (1Timothy chapter 2) We have the responsibility to pray for President Biden and we should continue to pray for President Trump and the future of these United States of America.
The last thing I want to share with you from God’s word, today will hopefully encourage those of you who feel like you are entering a time of captivity and spiritual unrest. In Genesis chapter 39, Joseph was thrown into prison for two years because of a lie told about him. Although he was in captivity, the Lord had favor upon him. After two years, he was set free and prospered in amazing ways. (You can read the story about Joseph in the book of Genesis chapters 37 to 50.) To all my Christian brothers and sisters, I want to encourage you with the fact that God‘s favor will be upon you for your faithfulness and your obedience to God and his Word. Don’t lose hope; don’t badmouth the new president or his administration. Trust God and love others, especially those with differing opinions. Sometimes it’s hard, but remember that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Proverbs 3:5 (NET)
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will make your paths straight.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NET)
For God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power and love and self control.
1 John 4:18-21 (CEB)
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear expects punishment. The person who is afraid has not been made perfect in love. We love because God first loved us. Those who say, “I love God” and hate their brothers or sisters are liars. After all, those who don’t love their brothers and sisters whom they have seen can hardly love God whom they have not seen! This commandment we have from him: those who claim to love God ought to love their brother and sister also.
Thanks for taking time to read my blog. Often times a new blog emerges out of my own disappointment or anxiety. That’s when faith rises up within me, and I preach to myself, then pass it on to all of you. I hope you find it helpful and encouraging. It is my prayer that we go forth loving one another, praying for restoration for the United States of America in Jesus’ name! Amen!
Fabulous Nancy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and it ministered to me. I, too was somewhat caught up in all the unrest. As a Christian, I realize God’s light shines best when we go through trials, as our Nation is experiencing, at the present time. I appreciate your writings as bringing light to our situation!
Matthew 5:16
“In the same way, let your light shine[a] before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
